Support during your cancer treatment

A cancer diagnosis does not only bring medical challenges. It can also have an emotional and physical impact on you and those close to you. That is why our hospital offers various forms of support, tailored to your personal needs.

Oncocoaches

Oncocoaches are nurses specialised in oncology. They will visit you for an introductory meeting, after which you can turn to them for personalised support.

Multidisciplinary care

During your treatment, you will come into contact with many healthcare professionals. Below you will find an overview of all the possible forms of support we can offer you during your treatment, in addition to our oncocoaches.

Pain clinic

Chronic pain can have a major impact on your quality of life. Our pain clinic works in a multidisciplinary way and offers both medication-based and additional treatments. The focus is on reducing pain and improving your ability to function in everyday life.

Pastoral care service

The pastoral care service is available for anyone who needs spiritual or emotional support. Our pastoral carers listen to your story, offer comfort and are there to reflect with you on life questions that may arise during your treatment. Whether you are religious or simply looking for a listening ear, you are always welcome.

Palliative Support Team

Sometimes treatment is no longer aimed at recovery. In that case, you can rely on our palliative support team. Both you and your loved ones can turn to them for guidance and advice. They help you with symptom control and provide support in dealing with the emotional and psychological impact of the illness.

The team also supports you in making choices about medical treatments and the organisation of the final phase of life. This may include drawing up an advance directive or a palliative care plan.

Psychological service

Illness and treatment can trigger many emotions, such as anxiety, stress, low mood or uncertainty. You can turn to our psychological service for tailored support. Our psychologists listen to your story and help you cope better with what you are going through, so that you can regain a sense of stability and calm in everyday life. If needed, your loved ones can also receive support.

Social services

Sometimes a hospital admission or treatment also raises practical and social questions. The social service helps you gain an overview and find solutions, for example regarding administration, work and income, home care, aids, transport or support after discharge. Our social workers think along with you, provide support where needed and help you arrange the right care and services.

Nutrition and dietetics

Good nutrition can make an important difference during illness and recovery. Our nutrition and dietetics service provides advice tailored to your situation, symptoms and treatment. You can contact our dietitians if you experience unintentional weight loss, reduced appetite, swallowing or gastrointestinal problems, or when a specific diet is required. They help you make achievable choices that support your energy levels and recovery.
