What can we help you with?
Our department can help you diagnose and monitor diabetes and related metabolic disorders (obesity, hypercholesterolemia), as well as diseases related to endocrine function (thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal, pituitary, gonads).
The doctor provides examinations, makes a diagnosis and treats with medication. An endocrinologist does not operate, but works with a surgeon if necessary. Sint-Trudo Hospital is the operation base of our endocrinologists, affiliated with Endonet (Endocrinological Network Haspengouw). From Sint-Trudo Hospital, they are active in the wider region and are building a network of endocrinological care with the hospital as base. Cooperation with general practitioners, other doctors-specialists, paramedics, and the patient himself is central to the approach.
The team also provides consultation in Borgloon and Heers in order to organize care as close to the patient as possible.
Our physicians are also active in az Vesalius (Tongeren and medical center Bilzen).
Diabetes
In diabetes mellitus, or diabetes, the pancreas produces too little or no insulin, resulting in too much sugar in the blood. After all, insulin is needed for sugar to be absorbed into the body.
The endocrinology derpartment is recognized as a centre for the NIHDI convention for self-monitoring and self-regulation of diabetes (diabetes convention) and for insulin pump treatment (pump convention). The department takes an active part in the diabetes care process and the preliminary process.
A specialized diabetes team of doctors, diabetes nurses, dieticians, psychologists and podiatrists provide multidisciplinary support for patients.
