Patient record

Hospitals are required to keep records for each patient. It contains the necessary nursing and medical data so that optimal care and treatment can be guaranteed. Of course, this patient file is strictly confidential and only the doctors, nurses and paramedics involved in your care have access to your data. The creation and storage of the patient file is done in accordance with the law of December 8, 1992 on the protection of privacy.

1. Professional secrecy on your file

Your patient record contains medical and nursing information to ensure optimal care. The record is strictly confidential and accessible only to doctors, nurses, paramedics, and administrative staff involved in your care or administration. Everyone is bound by professional confidentiality or a duty of discretion.

For informational studies, your record may be consulted, with your privacy always respected. Data is processed anonymously when published or shared with third parties.

During quality audits, your record may be reviewed by internal or external auditors, who are equally bound by confidentiality. If you prefer that your patient information is not reviewed as part of quality audits, please inform the admissions department, and we will respect your choice.

2. Shared medical record

As part of the nexuzhealth medical collaboration, Flemish hospitals share your patient record with healthcare providers within these hospitals. Privacy regulations are strictly observed. You can find a list of participating hospitals at www.mynexuzhealth.be.

Thanks to the shared record, you don’t need to repeat information between hospitals, your doctor gets a complete view of your health, and high-quality care is promoted. This helps avoid duplicate tests and facilitates referrals.

The record is highly secure. Only healthcare providers involved in your treatment have access. If you are not treated at a particular hospital, your record remains inaccessible there.

The national eHealth project

The government launched secure communication channels that allow all health care providers currently involved in your treatment to consult your medical data. Hospitals must ensure that essential information from your local patient record is available through this system. This exchange of health data happens only when you give your consent to it once. You can do this at the registration desk.

You can also give, withdraw or exclude certain health care providers from the right to access via www.myhealth.be online at any time.

Informing your family doctor

Your family doctor will be informed of your admission unless you request otherwise. In that case we ask you to inform the reception department.

Filming and photography

It is forbidden by law to film or photograph other patients, visitors, doctors or employees of Sint-Trudo Hospital recognizably without their explicit prior consent. This is a violation of the right to images and privacy. These photos/film recordings are for private use only and may not be published on social media in any way. Sound recordings are also prohibited without the consent of the person(s) involved.

Processing of Personal Data

The processing of your personal data is carried out in accordance with the Law of 30 July 2018 on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data, its implementing decrees, and Regulation (EU) No. 2016/679 of 27 April 2016 on the protection of natural persons concerning the processing of personal data.
