CT examination limb

In a CT (computer tomography) scan, we form an image of a limb (arm, leg, shoulder, hip,...) by means of X-rays. Usually a CT scan is, in this case, an additional examination to better visualize a complex fracture, for example.

Course of the examination

The examination lasts ten minutes. No anesthesia is required and you have relatively little discomfort from this examination.

For certain degenerative conditions, the requesting doctor may request an arthro CT. In this examination, the radiologist injects contrast agent into the joint (shoulder, knee, wrist ...). This fluid allows for better imaging of the limb.

After the examination, we can make 3D reconstructions on a workstation.

The radiologist who performed the examination makes an initial interpretation of the images during the examination. After the final interpretation, the radiologist sends a report to the doctor who requested the examination. Only this doctor can discuss the results with you.

This examination is only possible by appointment. Please always bring your identity card, your doctor's prescription and any previous radiological examinations with you.

Preparation

No specific preparation is required. You do not need to be sober.

Important things that you should report for scanner examination: pregnancy, allergy, certain conditions (see questionnaire to be filled out beforehand).

Aftercare

Because we introduce fluid into the joint, a feeling of tension may occur at the level of this joint. You may experience this as unpleasant. The feeling of tension will disappear gradually afterwards.

After the examination the joint can be used as normal.
