Lip lift (cosmetic)

A lip lift is a cosmetic procedure performed to lift the upper lip and shorten the distance between the nose and the lip.

What does a lip lift do?

As we age, the upper lip tends to lengthen, increasing the distance between the nose and the red part of the lip. A ip lift shortens this distance by raising the red part of the lip. This makes the lip contour more defined, the upper lip appears fuller, and the teeth more visible when speaking or smiling.

Preparing for the procedure

During the consultation, the doctor will carefully review your medical history. Be sure to mention all medication or supplements you are taking, as some may need to be stopped temporarily before the procedure. The doctor will examine the shape of your lips and face in detail and take photographs to clearly map out the desired result.

How is the procedure carried out?

A lip lift is usually performed under local anaesthesia and takes about an hour. Through a small incision just below the nostrils, a small strip of skin is removed. The upper lip is then gently lifted. The stitches are placed in a natural skin fold, making the scar hardly visible once healed.

Recovery and aftercare

After the procedure, you may experience mild swelling or tenderness around the upper lip and nose. This usually subsides within a few days. It is best to avoid excessive talking, laughing or strenuous activity in the first week. You will receive advice on wound care, and it is important to avoid sun exposure during the healing process.

Possible complications

As with any surgical procedure, there is a risk of complications such as bleeding or infection. Sometimes the sensation in your upper lip may change, but this usually disappears after a few months.

Result

The results of a lip lift are usually visible quite quickly: a fuller upper lip and a fresher, more expressive mouth area. The effect of the procedure is long-lasting.
