Cardiac rehabilitation

Multidisciplinary rehabilitation
Our team is available to all patients who have suffered a heart attack, stenting, heart surgery, pacemaker, ablation or heart failure. At the start of your rehabilitation program, we take an ergospirometry to tailor the exercise schedule to your body. You follow your exercise schedule in a renovated exercise room with high-tech rehabilitation equipment. You can even do H.I.T. training here. After a few weeks of rehabilitation we measure your evolution with a second ergospirometry. We conclude the rehabilitation process with a third ergospirometry.
Pathway
We establish a treatment plan in which our greatest goal is to allow you to maintain as much independence as possible in your daily life. Each course is unique. We also offer group lessons where it is possible that your partner / child comes along. These classes include: the role of nutrition in cardiovascular disease, coping with heart disease and relaxation training, CPR class and medical info. During the entire course, you will be followed up through a weekly team meeting where we discuss your evolution. We prepare you to resume your life without worries after the rehabilitation.
Our team consists of:
- The cardiologist-rehabilitator with whom you will first consult to create a customized rehabilitation schedule. At the end of the rehabilitation process you will have a final check-up with the doctor and tips to further improve your condition at home.
- The physical therapist who will assist you with exercises. These take place in groups, but the exercise schedule is adapted to your level.
- The dietician will help you with your nutrition plan to achieve a healthy and varied diet and will point out the role of nutrition in cardiovascular diseases.
- The psychologist will screen you at the beginning of the program for any risk factors such as stress, depression or anxiety and can support you in your disease experience and coping. If needed, you may also receive relaxation training.
- The social assistant helps you with all kinds of questions or problems around e.g. disability, work resumption, home help, documentation, as well as social, family or financial problems.
Exercise advice
After a heart problem has been diagnosed, it’s completely normal to feel worried about how certain activities might affect your heart. Still, it’s very important to stay active.
In our rehabilitation centre, an entire team is ready to support you throughout your recovery, so you can keep moving at your own pace. In the video below, one of our cardiologists tells you more.
