Breast lift

The shape of the female breast changes throughout life. Ageing, weight loss or pregnancy can cause the breast tissue to lose firmness, resulting in a loss of shape. With a breast lift, the plastic surgeon restores the natural contour and position of the breast.

What is the aim of a breast lift?

The aim of a breast lift is to raise the nipple and reshape the breast. Excess skin is removed, while preserving as much breast tissue as possible to maintain volume.

If you wish to increase volume, it may be necessary to combine this procedure with the placement of a breast implant. More information can be found via the link below.

Breast augmentation

How is the procedure performed?

The surgeon removes excess skin and reshapes the breast tissue, giving the breast a natrual shape again. The nipple is repositioned higher and, if necessary, reduced in size.

The scars depend on the amount of skin that needs to be removed.

  • Circular scar: for a limited lift, only a circular scar around the areola is required.
  • Lollipop scar: when the excess skin is limited, a circular scar around the areola is combined with a vertical line down to the breast fold.
  • Anchor-shaped scar: when more skin needs to be removed, a horizontal scar in the breast fold is added to the circular scar and the vertical line.

Every surgical procedure carries a risk of complications such as bleeding, infection and wound healing problems. After a breast lift, there are a number of points you should be aware of:

  • In rare cases, breastfeeding may no longer be fully possible. Every effort is made to keep this risk to a minimum.
  • The blood supply to the nipple and areola may be affected if the breast is severly sagging.
  • Sensation in the nipple and areola may change after the procedure.

Recovery and aftercare

After the procedure, temporary swelling, bruising or a feeling of tightness in the breasts may occur. You will need to wear a supportive bra day and night for several weeks to maintain the new shape.

The surgeon will monitor your recovery and provide personalised advice on wound care, scar management and further aftercare.
