Aesthetic scar correction

A scar can form after an operation, injury or skin condition. Sometimes a scar heals in a way that is very visible or bothersome. With an aesthetic scar correction, the appearance of the scar can be reduced.

When is scar correction recommended?

Correction may be considered when a scar is:

  • Broad, thick or raised (hypertrophic or keloid)
  • Pulling on the skin and limiting movement
  • Experienced as cosmetically disturbing

How is the procedure performed?

Depending on the type of scar, treatment may include:

  • Surgically removing the scar and stitching the skin again
  • Laser treatment
  • Injections with medication (for example, in the case of keloids)
  • A combination of the above techniques

The procedure is usually carried out under local anaesthetic and can often take place as day surgery.
