Laser treatment for facial scars
Plan your appointment
Why a laser treatment?
Laser technology refines the skin's texture, reduces redness and smooths the scar tissue. The result is softer, more even skin and a less noticeable scar. It can improve scars on the face caused by acne, and accident or previous surgery.
Preparing for the treatment
During a consultation, the doctor will discuss your medical history and skin type. It is important to mention any products, medication or supplements you are using. The doctor will examine the scar in detail, take photographs if necessary and draw up a personalised treatment plan. Often, several sessions are needed, depending on the type and depth of the scar.
How is the treatment carried out?
The laser treatment is usually performed under local anaesthesia or without anaesthesia, depending on the type of laser and the sensitivity of the area. Using a fine laser beam, the scar tissue is treated, stimulating the skin to heal and renew itself. The treatment usually takes about 15 to 45 minutes.
Recovery and aftercare
After the treatment, the skin may be somewhat red or swollen, similar to a mild sunburn. This usually subsides within a few days. It is important to keep the skin well moisturized and protected from the sun. The doctor will provide you specific instructions for skin care and follow-up.
Result
After a few weeks, you will see a clear improvement in the texture and colour of the scar. After several sessions, the scar often becomes much less visible. Temporary redness, pigment changes or scabbing may occur, but is usually short-lived.
