Allergy tests

An allergy test is an examination that determines whether you are allergic to certain substances, such as pollen, house dust mites, animal food or medication.

Why an allergy test?

Allergies may manifest through the skin, airways or digestive system. Typical symptoms are:

  • Sneezing, itching or a blocked nose
  • Eczema or hives
  • Wheezing
  • Stomach and intestinal discomfort after eating certain foods

Which tests are available?

Depending on your symptoms, the doctor will choose the most suitable test:

  • Skin test (prick test): Small drops containing allergens are applied to the skin. The skin is then superficially pricked. If there is a reaction, redness or swelling will occur.
  • Blood test: This measures the presence of specific antibodies against certain allergens.
  • Provocation test: In exceptional cases, you will be exposed to the suspected allergen in a controlled way.

After the examination

After the examination, the doctor will discuss the results and treatment plan with you. If necessary, you will be referred for further examination.
