Removal of a mucous cyst in the neck
A thyroglossal cyst is a benign mucus cyst in the middle of the neck. It usually develops before birth, during the formation of the thyroid. The cyst is filled with mucus and may slowly increase in size. Sometimes it becomes inflamed or causes difficulties with swallowing or speaking.

How is the procedure carried out?
The only effective treatment is surgery. During the operation, the cyst is completely removed together with a small part of the hyoid bone to which it is often attached. This reduces the chance of the cyst coming back.
Recovery and aftercare
After the operation, the neck may feel somewhat sensitive and swallowing may temporarily be more difficult. This usually improves quickly.
