Removal of a congenital neck cyst

A branchial cyst is a congenital, benign cyst that usually occurs in the neck. The cyst develops due to incomplete formation during the embryonic stage. Sometimes the cyst becomes inflamed or infected.

Treatment

The only effective treatment is surgical removal of the cyst. The procedure is carried out under general anaesthetic. The doctor makes a small incision in the neck and removes the cyst completely to prevent recurrence or infection.

Aftercare and recovery

After the procedure, you may temporarily experience some swelling or sensitivity in the operated area. You will receive advice on how to care for the wound and any guidelines to follow during your recovery.
