Ambulance

Emergency ambulance transport

For each urgent intervention by the ambulance after a 112 call, you yourself pay 67.53 euros (co-payment), regardless of the distance traveled. Even if you are not taken to the hospital, you pay this amount. On top of this amount, no additional costs may be charged. The costs of urgent patient transport are determined by law.

Non-urgent patient transport

To another hospital

When you are transferred from one hospital to another for specialized treatment or examination and you return the same day, the transport costs are for the hospital.

If you have to stay overnight at the other hospital or can go directly home from the other hospital, the transportation costs are for the patient. The amount you end up paying yourself depends on the intervention of your health insurance fund. Be sure to check this beforehand.

When discharged from the hospital

When discharged from the hospital, we advise you, if possible, to call on a family member or acquaintance to take you home. This is the easiest and cheapest solution. If this is not possible, you can call on a patient transport company. The cost of this transportation is for the patient. The amount you ultimately pay yourself depends on the intervention of your health insurance fund.

Because of your health condition, it may be necessary for your transport to be carried out urgently or for us to use a more specialized service provider. The costs of this will also be payed by the patient.

Intervening health insurance fund

The Flemish Patients Platform provides an overview per health insurance fund of the non-urgent patient transport that is reimbursed, under what conditions the reimbursement is made and for what amount. That way, you can estimate the cost of transport in advance.

More information:

It is often unclear to patients which patient transport is reimbursed and how much the reimbursement amounts to.

We advise you to always contact your health insurance fund when you use patient transport. This is because the reimbursements from each insurance company varies greatly.
