Stool test

You can come to the clinical laboratory for the examination of stool.

Steps of the examination

When you need to collect stool for an examination, you must follow these steps meticulously:

  1. Collect some stool using a piece of toilet paper and put some stool in a clean jar.
  2. Using the spoon attached to the lid, take some stool several times. While doing so, preferably penetrate inside the stool if it is in solid form. Be sure to keep the outside of the jar clean.
  3. Provide the jar with your name, date of birth, date and time you fill it.
  4. We prefer to receive the sample as soon as possible. Keep the container with the stool sample (possibly with a plastic bag around the container) in the refrigerator if it cannot be dropped off right away.
  5. Return the jar of stool sample to the laboratory counter along with the request form you received from your doctor.

Examination of blood in the stool

When you get an examination of blood in the stool, you must follow a certain diet for four days:

  • Very important: during these days you eat mainly high-fiber foods such as raw vegetables (including lettuce), brown and rye bread, fruits, nuts.
  • Important: it is desirable to eat less red meat for 3 days.
  • Forbidden: bananas, radishes, raspberry, painkillers, vitamin C preparations.

How to proceed

  • On the second, third and fourth day of your diet, take stool samples for the study, each time in a different jar.
  • Provide each jar with your name, date of birth, date and time.
  • If you do not have a stool sample on one of the test days, the test will be moved up one day and the diet will be prolonged.
  • Please bring the samples to the laboratory as soon as possible.
  • In the meantime, keep the samples in the refrigerator.
