Nose correction
Why a nose correction?
A rhinoplasty may be carried out for aesthetic reasons, such as adjusting the shape, size or symmetry of the nose. It can also help with funtional problems, for example a deviated septum or a narrowed nasal cavity that makes breathing difficult. It may also be performed after an accident or in the case of a congenital deformity.
How is the procedure performed?
The surgery can be done under general or local anaesthesia, depending on the complexity. Through small incisions inside or on the outside of the nose, the bone and cartilage tissue is reshaped. The doctor may reduce, enlarge or straighten the nose to achieve the desired shape and function.
Aftercare and recovery
After surgery, the nose is supported with a splint or bandage. Swelling and bruising around the nose and eyes are normal and usually subside within a few weeks. In the first days, breathing through the nose may be difficult due to swelling and residual blood.
It is best to avoid strenuous activities and pressure on the nose for the first few weeks after the surgery. Sleeping with your head slightly elevated can help to reduce swelling.
