Laser for facial rejuvenation
When can laser be a good choice?
Laser for facial rejuvenation can help with:
- fine lines and early wrinkles
- dull skin or uneven skin texture
- enlarged pores
- sun damage and (mild) pigmentation spots
- redness caused by small superficial blood vessels (with certain lasers)
- acne scars or small scars (depending on the type)
A laser treatment does not replace a facelift, but it can have a noticeable positive effect on skin quality and overall appearance.
How does it work?
A laser delivers controlled energy to the skin. This stimulates skin renewal and the production of additional collagen. Collagen is a building block that provides firmness and elasticity. The effect usually develops gradually over the weeks to months following the treatment.
Different types of lasers
There are variuous laser treatments, each with a specific purpose and recovery time.
- Superficial skin resurfacing (mild): focuses on glow, refinement and minor irregularities. The skin usually requires little downtime afterwards. Redness and mild flaking of the skin may occur after treatment.
- Fractional laser (more intensive): targets skin texture, fine lines and (acne) scars more thoroughly. Works in small 'microzones', allowing the skin to recover more quickly (within a few days). You may experience redness, swelling and flaking.
During your consultation, we will discuss which type best suits your skin and expectations.
How does the treatment proceed?
During a consultation, we assess your skin type, medication and sun exposure. You will receive advice on skin care and sun protection. In some cases, a preparatory cream or routine is recommended.
During the treatment, your skin is cleansed and protected. Depending on the type of laser, a numbing cream may be used. You may feel warm sensations or short 'tapping' feelings, the intensity varies according to the treatment.
After treatment, your skin may feel red and warm. With more intensive lasers, swelling and flaking are normal. You will receive clear instructions on how to care for your skin.
Results
Some lasers provide a fresher-looking skin relatively quickly, but true skin improvement takes time. Several sessions are usually needed for an optimal result. The number of treatments depends on your skin and your goal.
Even after treatment, the skin continues to age. Good skincare and sun protection remain essential. Smoking and excessive sun exposure reduce the long-term effect of the treatment.
