Why a bone anchor?
Bone anchors are used in orthodontic treatment when the surrounding teeth cannot serve as anchorage points. This may be necessary when moving back teeth, if the front teeth are not suitable for anchoring. In such cases, bone anchors provide a reliable and efficient solution.
Placement
During the procedure, a small opening is made in the gum to carefully insert the bone anchor into the jawbone. The gum is then stitched, and an elastic band or wire can be attached to the bone anchor to move the teeth in the desired direction.
After treatment
Bone anchors can be used for various orthodontic treatments. Once they are no longer needed, they can be easily removed. In most cases, the gum heals naturally and no stitches are required. The jawbone will fully recover over time.
