The lab guide includes an overview of the analyses we offer with information on clinical significance, collection conditions, output frequency, TAT, call-through limits, reimbursement, and reference values.

Applications

As a doctor, you can have samples analyzed at the clinical biology lab at Sint-Trudo Hospital. You can use a paper request form for this purpose. On it you fill in at least these details:

• Identification of the patient: gender, date of birth, address, contact information and a unique identifier
• Your doctor credentials: name, INAMI-NIHDI (RIZIV) number, contact information and signature
• Type of primary specimen and anatomical location of origin
• Examinations requested
• Medically relevant information about the patient and the request
• Date and, if relevant, time when the primary specimens were collected
• Date and time of receipt of samples

Urgent requests

A limited number of analyses are performed urgently. If you need an urgent analysis, you can clearly indicate this on the request form.

If you also need other analyses for urgent medical reasons, this can be done after motivation and in consultation with a clinical biologist from the lab.

Additional examinations

You can always request additional analyses on samples already in the lab. Also, a clinical biologist can add an analysis if it seems appropriate based on the results or clinical inquiry.

Additional studies are subject to the following conditions:

• The retention period of the sample has not been exceeded.
• There is sufficient sample present.
• The stability of the parameter in question allows it.

Invoice

The clinical biology laboratory applies the third-party payer scheme. All clinical biologists are accredited. Also they follow the official fees and do not charge patients any fee supplements. Analyses that are not reimbursed are clearly indicated on our request forms and in the lab guide.

Pseudonomenclature numbers

For laboratory tests for which there is no INAMI-NIHDI nomenclature and which the patient must therefore pay for himself (pseudonomenclature), the amount charged to the patient is listed in the lab guide for the analysis in question.

Please take this into account when requesting the tests and properly inform your patient of the cost.

In consultation with the pseudonomenclature committee, we keep the amounts as low as possible: these are either the costs charged to us by the external performing laboratory, or the cost of reagents if we perform the test ourselves. Handling costs and lab time are not charged.

Cost analyses

The anatomopathology laboratory applies the third-party payer rule this means that there is no charge to the patient himself. Analyses that are not reimbursed are clearly indicated on our request forms and in the lab guide.
