A wrist cyst is a swelling at the wrist. It can occur on either the upper (dorsal) or lower (volar) side. They consist of a thin wall filled with fluid coming from the wrist joint.

Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is caused by increased pressure on a nerve (median nerve) in the wrist canal, also called carpal tunnel.

Trigger finger, also known as a spring finger, is an inflammation of the protective sheath around a tendon in the finger. As a result, the tendon can no longer move smoothly. This can cause pain, stiffness and a catching or 'clicking' sensation when bending or straightening the finger. In more severe cases, the finger may temporarily lock in place.

Dupuytren's disease is a benign condition in which the connective tissue in pour palm and fingers starts to thicken. This excess connective tissue forms nodules and cords that can cause the fingers to bend towards the palm.

De Quervain's syndrome is an inflammation or irritation of the tendons on the thumb side of the wrist. The tendons do not have enough space to move smoothly, which causes pain when gripping, twisting or lifting. The pain often worsens with rotational movements or when lifting a baby.

The various joints of the hand and wrist are responsible for fine motor skills and grasping and manipulating objects. An injury to the hand or wrist can result from overuse or an accident.
