Dialysis centre

Sint-Trudo has an accredited dialysis centre, serving people with chronic kidney disease. The centre will continue to expand in the coming years to meet demand.

What can we do for you?

Through a separate entrance, you can access our dialysis centre, where a specialized team of doctors and nurses will give you the best care possible. When the kidneys work insufficiently, and the disturbed balances in the body can no longer be restored by adapted nutrition and medication, we have to rely on technical devices. These take over certain functions of the kidney function. The known techniques applied in Sint-Trudo are hemodialysis (artificial kidney), peritoneal dialysis (abdominal dialysis) and kidney transplantation.

In the dialysis centre, we treat patients via hemodialysis, following follow-up and on prescription by the nephrologist (kidney specialist).

Dialysis treatment

In hemodialysis treatment, a filter called the artificial kidney purifies blood outside the body. To get the blood to the artificial kidney, a blood vessel is punctured or we work with a catheter that stays in place. The purified blood is then sent back to the body. A dialysis treatment lasts an average of 4 hours and takes place three times a week in most cases.
